Centre’s indecision causing suicides: Varavara Rao

Hyderabad: Revolutionary writer Varavara Rao on Saturday alleged that the spate of suicides by youth and students for the cause of Telangana were ‘government sponsored murders.’

Speaking at the third Maha Sabha of Greater Hyderabad unit of Telangana Vidyavantula Vedika here, he said the delay in the formation of Telangana and confused statements and decisions taken by the Congress governments triggered suicides in the region. Students lost hope on their future and resorted to take extreme steps by committing suicides for T state.

Rao said after the December 9 statement made in favour of Telangana, the Centre changed its decision and made another statement on December 23 against the bifurcation of state. As these decisions disappointed students and youth, they resorted to commit suicide in despair and depression. Centre was to be held responsible for the suicides, he added.

Coming down heavily on all political parties, he said because of the vote bank politics the aspirations and sentiments of the T people have been left in the lurch.

Winning majority seats in the election will not pave way for the formation of Telangana, only a democratic united struggle by all the parties and organizations in T region can only speed up the process for the bifurcation of state, he said.

The Vidhya Vanthula Vedika president Mallepally Laxmaiah asserted that intellectuals should play a constructive role in strengthening the T– movement by abridging people and the organisations in Telangana region.

Calling on people to gherao the Ministers and MLAs and Congress leaders of Telangana at every platform, TJAC chairman M Kodandaram said Seemandhra leaders are playing spoilsport in the formation of Telangana, when people of the region were fighting for self respect, self rule and dignified life in separate state. The agitations being launched by the JAC will make Congress leaders feel ashamed in the coming days, he added.

The Hans India – Resident Editor Ashok Tankashala and others were also present in the meeting.
