The central government came down as a result of the farmers’ protests under the aegis of the Telangana government. The Centre has come forward to buy more rice for the monsoon crop. It is a known fact that under the leadership of Chief Minister KCR, state ministers, MLAs, and the general public have been putting intense pressure on the Centre over rice procurement for some time now. In response, the central government has expressed its readiness to procure an additional six lakh metric tonnes of kharif season rice from the state. The Union Ministry of Food has informed the state government to this effect. According to the latest orders, 46 lakh metric tonnes of rice will be procured from the state. In this regard, the state government will procure 68 lakh tonnes of grain.
