BRS to fight until GO 29 is revoked: KTR

BRS working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) stated that Government Order (GO) 29 is unconstitutional, and the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) will continue to fight against it until it is revoked. KTR made these remarks while addressing the media on the issue.

“Students had approached us, expressing concerns over GO 29, and at their request, we engaged senior advocate Kapil Sibal to challenge the order in the Supreme Court. Although we expected a hearing on Friday, it was deferred to Monday. The Supreme Court did not object to any points we raised and has directed that no results be declared until a verdict is passed on GO 29. The Court also asked for an expedited hearing,” KTR said.

He explained that the previous BRS state government had issued GO 55 in accordance with SC, ST, BC, and EWS reservations. “We ensured merit-based opportunities for all under the open category, but GO 29 limits the opportunities for reserved categories by removing them from their own categories if they secure a place in open-category seats, which is unfair. Since February, we have been raising concerns about the injustice of GO 29,” KTR stated.

The BRS working president also accused chief minister  Revanth Reddy, of using the issue to create divisions among students and weaken the reservation system. “Our party leaders, including Harish Rao, Dasoju Sravan, and R.S. Praveen Kumar, have spoken out against this injustice. Students who are preparing for Group 1 Mains have been left without a conducive atmosphere due to the uncertainty caused by the government,” he added.

KTR emphasized that the BRS would continue to support students until the court case is resolved. “The students’ demands are simple—why hasn’t the government addressed their concerns? Is it wrong to point out that GO 29 is unconstitutional? KCR has fought for 95% reservation for locals, but now there are conspiracies to bring in non-locals,” he remarked.

The minister questioned the government’s stubborn refusal to reschedule the exams until the issues are resolved. “This government is not only undermining the reservations of SC, ST, and BC communities through GO 29, but it is also conspiring to benefit non-locals. We will fight for the students in court with the best legal representation. This isn’t just about GO 29—students and Group 4 employees affected by GO 46 also deserve support,” KTR asserted.

In closing, KTR warned the government not to be arrogant, stating, “In a democracy, one must know when to compromise and when to fight. Undermining constitutionally guaranteed reservations is the worst form of injustice.” The BRS has vowed to continue its legal and political battle against GO 29 and similar policies affecting students and backward communities in Telangana.
