TS Water Grid will Integrate Successful Models, Says KTR

Exuding confidence regarding the successful implemetation of the proposed Water Grid in Telangana State, IT and panchayat raj minister KT Rama Rao said on Sunday that the project will be executed within the stipulated time.

Rama Rao, who is on a two-day visit to Gujarat to study the Water Grid model implemented by state, also said the Telangana government would involve women’s Self-help Groups (SHGs) in villages to maintain water grid at village level.

On the second day of his visit, Rama Rao held discussions with Gujarat government officials regarding the project and also went on a field visit to understand the Gujarat model.

“We are confident that the water grid would be completed within the stipulated time. The project would be taken up on a Mission Mode. After analysing the water grid in Gujarat, I am confident that we can complete the project within time,” Rama Rao said in a release.

The minister also pointed out some similarities and differences between the water grid model adopted by Gujarat and proposed in Telangana. “We will incorporate the successful themes of Gujarat model in the Telangana water grid project,” added Rama Rao.

After interacting with the Panni Samithi in Gujurat, which is taking care of the water grid, he appreciated the work being done by village women and said Telangana government will also try to involve SHG women in the functioning of water grid in villages.

Pointing out the similarities between the Gujarat model and Telangana model, he minister said that in both states around 60 per cent of drinking water requirement is met through rivers. The states are depending on other resources to fulfil the remaiming 40 per cent demand.

Rama Rao asked the Rural Water Supply officials, who accompanied him, to prepare a report about the execution of the project in the state and submit it to the government.

The minister also visited the Navda water grid from where eight TMC of water is being diverted to 2,325 villages and 38 towns using using 12 motors. “We will fulfil the dreams of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to provide drinking water to each and every household in Telangana,” he said.
