TS Plea for Airport at Kothagudem

Union Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju said he would soon convene a meeting with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in Hyderabad on pending issues like sanctioning a new airport to Kothagudem.

Raju gave this assurance when a delegation led by Telangana Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and others called on him in Delhi on Tuesday. The delegation submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister. Harish urged Raju to sanction an airport to Kothagudem in Khammam district, as several Central government offices, including Singareni Collieries Company Ltd, are located there. “If the Centre sanctions the new airport in Kothagudem, the State government will allot land and provide basic infrastructure,” Harish Rao told the Union Minister.

Harish Rao requested the Union Minister to introduce more international flights to be operated from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad and make it an international hub. He wanted sanctioning of a cargo airport in Hyderabad and also an airlines repairs station for Hyderabad.
