The state government will bring out a policy for NRIs, which would be better than the policies in Kerala and Punjab, NRI affairs minister KT Rama Rao has said.
He held a held meeting on Wednesday with all the stakeholders seeking suggestions to incorporate in the proposed NRI policy of the state.
“I have received a lot of suggestions for the policy. We will definitely bring the best policy for NRIs. The draft policy will be prepared soon and it will be placed before the Cabinet for its approval,” Rama Rao said.
The NRI policy will mainly focus on solving the problems of the Telangana NRIs who migrated to other countries in search of livelihood.”There is no problem for skilled workers. We will provide rehabilitation for the semi-skilled and unskilled workers, who returns to the state,” Rama Rao told reporters after the meeting.
The unskilled workers were migrated from the state mostly to Malaysia and Thailand, the minister said. The unauthorised travel agents too would be controlled and the Telangana cultural department would create awareness on the fake travel agents, Rama Rao said. He added that he would also meet the Union external affairs minister Suhma Swaraj and prepare the NRI policy in tune with the Central government’s rules.
The minister said a special officer would be appointed to assist NRIs wishing to invest in Telangana and a corpus fund intended for the welfare of NRIs would also be established.
