TRS will Support Centre on Women’s Bill: Kavitha

The TRS party will extend its complete support to the Centre if it introduces women’s reservation bill in the Lok Sabha, TRS MP from Nizamabad K Kavitha said here on Sunday.

As the bill was already passed in the Rajya Sabha, Kavitha said, the TRS is committed to pass the bill which provides 33 per cent reservations for women in the legislative bodies. Taking part in the International Women’s Day celebrations organised by the Union ministry of labour here on Sunday, Kavitha also demanded that both the State and Central governments should introduce courses on legal awareness for women in higher education.

She felt that the existing Acts for safety and welfare of women were not reaching the beneficiaries due to lack of awareness. The MP also requested the Union minister for labour and employment Bandaru Dattatreya to address the issues of women who are working in the unorganised sectors.

Responding to the appeal, Dattatreya promised to introduce Employees Provident Fund and ESI to women workers in unorganised sectors. He said a nationwide mission will be launched to identify the beneficiaries for the scheme.

Lauding the Union government’s scheme ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’, Dattatreya said under the scheme, 100 districts across the country have been selected to create awareness about the welfare schemes for girl child. Hyderabad district in Telangana and Kadapa district from Andhra Pradesh have been selected for the scheme, he added.

The Union labour ministry felicitated women achievers from various fields on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

Padma Devender Reddy, deputy speaker of Telangana Assembly, Jeevitha, member of the Censor Board, badminton players P V Sindhu and Jwala Gutta and yougest female mountaineer to climb the Mount Everest, Poorna Malavath, Ramon Magsaysay award winner Shanta Sinha and MPs Gundu Sudharani were felicitated on the occasion.
