Tourism to be promoted in big way in TS

Govt. keen to develop wildlife safaris, medical and adventure tourism: KTR

There are virgin locations in the Telangana State that can be developed as wildlife safaris on the lines of the ones in Kenya, which attract tourists from across the world, said State Information Technology (IT) and Panchayat Raj Minister K.T. Rama Rao.

Addressing delegates and participants at the World Tourism Day celebrations here at the Paryatak Bhavan on Saturday evening, Mr. Rama Rao said the full potential of Nagarjunasagar and Srisailam backwaters as tourist destinations have to be exploited.

He further mentioned that various forms of tourism like medical tourism and adventure tourism can also be promoted.

The Minister stated that as part of the State government’s effort to revive Telangana culture, the Sahitya Akademi and other literary academies had been revived. “We are very focussed on the cultural aspect. Even the Chief Minister has a cultural mind and he writes poems,” he mentioned, and added that a theme park could also be built in Hyderabad for citizens.

“Also, the Chief Minister is very keen to improve the law and order situation in the city and also the surveillance system which is necessary to promote tourism,” said the IT Minister.

As part of the celebrations, the Tourism Department presented the Telangana State Tourism awards to various persons, hotels, restaurants, and other organisations for promoting tourism activities in the State.
