In next three years from now over 26,000 schools in Telangana will get a facelift with all modern amenities as part of Mana Ooru – Mana Badi programme.
A total of 8,000 new classrooms will be added to 9,123 schools in the first phase with an estimate of Rs 3,497.62 crores. If generous come forward with charity, classroom will be named after the donors.
About 15 percent of the total expenditure will be set aside as revolving fund. The programme will be implemented in three phases. The government will be issuing an order to this effect soon. It will involve former students and local residents as well for foolproof and transparent implementation.
As part of the programme, separate toilets for boys and girls, replacement of outdated switch boards, fans and lights, provision of new furniture to students and teachers, establishment of libraries and new science labs, white washing of old buildings, undertaking minor and major repairs to the buildings, compound walls to all schools, demolition and construction of desolate buildings, dining halls for mid day meal scheme and provision of projectors and computers for digital classes will be taken up.
Those donating more than Rs 2 lakh will be made member of school management committee and those donating Rs 10 lakh and above will be given a choice to rename the classroom or school.
