Hailing from Nizamabad of Telangana, Nikhat Zareen emerged as world champion in the boxing championship beating her rival Jitpong Jutamas in the flyweight (52 kg) at Istanbul on Thursday. She became the fifth woman from India to bag the prestigious championship after Mary Kom who won six times, Jenny RL, Lakha KC, and others.
The chief minister Mr K Chandrasekhar Rao showered praises on her for making the state proud. He said the government had already decided to set up playing grounds in all villages to shape and promote sportspersons in the state. The State government will extend all support to the sportspersons, he said.
