Telangana bagged eight awards for promotion of tourism and cleanliness at the World Tourism Day celebrations of the Ministry of Tourism in New Delhi on Wednesday.
President Ramnath Kovind presented the awards at Vignan Bhavan, a release here said. The awards were announced for Telangana in the categories of heritage structures, cleanliness in tourist places and tourist guides. After the function, Tourism Secretary B. Venkatesham addressed a press conference at Telangana Bhavan where he recalled the State government’s determination, as expressed by him last year, to strive for five more awards at this year’s celebration and it was accomplished.
He said the Tourism Department of Telangana won five awards, while three more went to public-private enterprises. Warangal city stood first in the country in Swachtha category for cleanliness drive in its heritage area.
Warangal was declared the heritage city for the second consecutive year.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) won the Civic Management Tourist Destination in India award. A tourist guide, Kasinath, was declared the best guide for his service spanning 40 years and Apollo Hospitals won the award in health tourism category, he added.
