The state government has decided to provide loans to all the Self Help Groups (SHGs) to the tune of Rs. 21,000 by the end of next January. In the current year, a total of Rs. 11,000 crore loans were given.
With an aim to provide livelihood and economic empowerment for women, the government has been providing loans to women groups. As they are regular in payments, the banks are also eager to give loans to them. The NPAs are less than two per cent.
In the year 2022-23, the state government will provide loans of Rs. 18,000 crore through banks and Rs. 2,800 crore through Stree Nidhi. There are a total of 4.30 lakh SHGs with a membership of 46 lakh women in the state.
The loans through Stree Nidhi are covered by insurance, and if any member dues, her total loan is waived. So far as many as 1,29,725 groups have received Rs 1,273 crores through Stree Nidhi.
