Telangana sanctions Rs. 10 cr. for Bonalu

The Telangana government has formed a committee of Ministers with Md. Mahamood Ali, Naini Narsimha Reddy, T. Padma Rao and A. Indrakaran Reddy as its members to oversee the arrangements for the month-long ‘Bonalu’ festival.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao reviewed the arrangements for the State festival in his camp office on Monday and announced sanction of Rs. 10 crore for the purpose.

Accordingly, the Endowments Department and GHMC would release Rs. 5 crore each.

Apart from Minsters Mr. Narsimha Reddy and Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma, Police Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy and GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar attended the meeting.

The Chief Minister directed Endowments Commissioner A. Siva Sankar to organise the festivities on a grand scale by coordinating with the Ministers’ panel and GHMC.

Accepting the invitation of Mr. Srinivas Yadav and priests of Balkampet Yellamma temple to visit it, the Chief Minister said he would participate in the ‘kalyanotsavam’ of deity Yellamma along with his family members on Tuesday, as part of the Bonalu festivities.

Rs. 3 lakh each for 15 temples

At another review meeting held in the Secretariat, the Ministers’ committee decided to allocate Rs. 3 lakh each to 15 temples in the old city and Rs. 20 lakh each to other constituencies in city.

Repairs and renovation of temples would be taken up with the funds sanctioned by the government, Mr. Narsimha Reddy told reporters after the meeting.
