In view of the proposed ‘rail roko’ agitation in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh tomorrow, the South Central Railway (SCR) today announced cancellation, diversion and rescheduling of several passenger trains, local trains and inter-zonal trains.
According to an SCR release, as many as 116 passenger trains have been cancelled while other trains including cross- country inter-zonal trains (plying across Telangana region for July 14) would be either cancelled/ partially cancelled/ diverted/ rescheduled and regulated.
All (51 services) of diesel hydraulic multi unit (DHMUs) train services in Telangana area will remain cancelled and the MMTS (local train services) between Faluknuma-Secunderabad and Hyderabad shall also remain cancelled for July 14, the release said.
The Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (JAC) as part of its series of pro-Telangana agitations has called for a ‘rail roko’ protest campaign demanding that the Central government initiate steps for formation of separate statehood.
The Telangana statehood demand gained momentum last week after over 100 MLAs and 15 MPs, cutting across party lines, submitted their resignations to respective presiding officers. [PTI]
