Telangana lawyers protest at Kavuri’s residence

Hyderabad, Aug 2 : Protesting against the remarks of Eluru MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao on the Telangana state, the Telangana Lawyers Joint Action Committee on Thursday tried to lay siege to his residence at Jubilee Hills.

Raising slogans against the MP, the members of Lawyers Joint Action Committee demanded Kavuri Sambasiva Rao to immediately withdraw his insulting remarks against the Telangana state. It may be recalled that the MP while giving interview to a private TV channel stated that the Centre would not take a favourable decision over the formation of separate Telangana state under the present circumstances.

The JAC members described those comments as `unfortunate’ and `untimely’ as the Centre was making concrete efforts to resolve the issue by September this year. They alleged that the Seemandhra leaders have launched a malicious campaign in the TV channels to scuttle the chances of bifurcation of state to protect their own selfish interests.

The protesting lawyers alleged that some Seemandhra “capitalists” were responsible for the looting of wealth and encroachment of lands in the Telangana region. They threatened to intensify their agitation if the MP does not withdraw his comments.

Later, the city police arrested JAC members and shifted them to the Jubilee Hills police station. [INN]
