Telangana Jagruthi, an organisation devoted to promotion of Telangana culture, opened a branch in Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra on Sunday.
The event was marked by Bathukamma and Bonalu festivities, and rendition of Telangana folk songs by ‘dappu’ artistes.
Inaugurating it, Jagruthi president and Nizamabad MP K Kavitha said the friendship between the Telangana and Maharashtra peoples dated back to several centuries. “Even today, we get to hear Marathi words in the language spoken by Telangana people.
The relationship between Marathi and Telangana Telugus is strong and I hope it will continue in the future,” she said and alleged that Andhra rulers always had condescending attitude towards the dialect of Telangana people. She promised to hold Bathukamma celebration on a grand scale in Mumbai as well.
South Mumbai MP Arvind Sawant, Worli MLA Sunil Shinde, Bandra MLA Trupthi Sawanth, Telangana government adviser Deshapathi Srinivas and singer-composer Vandemataram Srinivas also participated in the programme.
