Telangana Government to roll out Common Mobility Card to enhance public transportation

The Telangana government taking a significant step towards enhancing public transportation in Hyderabad city by announcing the introduction of a Common Mobility Card. This card will enable citizens to access multiple public transport services seamlessly, making commuting more convenient and efficient. With the upcoming Common Mobility Card, commuters will have access to various facilities in the public transport system, including RTC buses, metro rail, MMTS, cabs, and autos. The card will be issued initially in Hyderabad city and later expanded across Telangana to serve a broader populace.

A meeting was convened at the State Secretariat, presided over by Ministers K. Taraka Rama Rao, Puvvada Ajay, and Srinivas Goud, to discuss the details of the Common Mobility Card. In attendance were top officials from the Hyderabad Metro Rail and Telangana RTC organizations who provided comprehensive insights into the card’s functionality and implementation.

The card issuance process is scheduled to begin by the 2nd week of August, as authorities have been directed to make necessary arrangements. Upon its launch, the Common Mobility Card will be usable on Metro Rail and RTC buses, which form the primary modes of public transportation within Hyderabad city.

Ministers, during the meeting, emphasized the importance of a “One Card for All Travel Needs” model. The objective is to enable citizens to use the Common Mobility Card not only for travel but also for various other transactions, akin to existing cards, thus streamlining travel payment processes. The state government views this card as a transformative tool to enhance the overall public transport experience. Initially, it will facilitate travel via Metro Rail and RTC buses, with plans to extend its usability to MMTS, cab services, and autos in the near future.

One of the key highlights of the Common Mobility Card is its nationwide applicability. Citizens possessing this card will be able to utilize it in other metro cities as well, including RTC buses and metro rail services in which the National Common Mobility card system is accepted.

In an effort to involve the citizens in this initiative, the Telangana government has sought their participation in suggesting a name for the Common Mobility Card. Special Chief Secretary to the Government, Arvind Kumar, reached out to the public through a tweet, inviting them to propose creative names for the card.
