Telangana Gongadi Exhibition in Hyderabad

Gongadi is a 100% Khadi Wool product woven from the wool of the Deccani sheep breed. Malkha Marketing and Anthra are conducting an exhibition on this ancient wool craft from Telangana.

After the successful first – ever Gongadi exhibition last year (2011) in Hyderabad, the Unni Sangham and Anthra, are embarking on the second season of exhibitions which will travel to 4 cities – Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi.

The Gongadi exhibition returns to Hyderabad from 11th to 13th October jointly organised by Malkha Marketing Trust and Anthra, and will be exhibited at the Malkha Shop, Hyderabad . Co-inciding with the COP-CBD 11 in Hyderabad, the Gongadis which are symbols of conservation of Telangana’s very own Deccani sheep breed, will be exhibited as a part of the People’s Bio-diversity Festival from 13th to 16th October 2012.

These exhibitions bring to you a new collection of Gongadi designs, in different sizes (traditional 8*4, and new 6* 4 and small 2*4 prayer mats), along with traditional weaves.

We invite one and all to support the craftspeople, the Gongadi, and the Deccani sheepwhich are entwined with one another – much like the Gongadi’s warp and weft, that will lead to sustainable and creative livelihoods for the women and men of Telangana.

There will be a Press Conference at Malkha Shop, at 11:30 am on 11th October 2012. and performance by Oggu Katha artists from Medak district. You are cordially invited.
