The state government has decided to strengthen the PR engineering wing.
It was aimed at maintenance of roads in rural areas. The PR engineering wing has 67,000 kilometre roads under its jurisdiction. In the new set up officials will be given more powers to take decisions on new proposals, maintenance and supervision of roads in villages.
The new setup will also undertake the civil works belonging to ITDA, School education and other departments.
In the new setup, every six to seven assembly constituencies will have one Superintending Engineer, PR engineering head office will have two chief engineers in addition to existing engineer in chief and chief engineer, decision making at officers level among others.
The state government has sanctioned Rs 100 crore for the purpose.
The chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has asked the officials to prepare a detailed report on the new setup by December first week and take up recruitment of staff immediately.
