Siddipet substation fire likely caused by demand-supply mismatch

A massive fire erupted at the 220 KV electricity substation located at Mustabad Chowrasta in Siddipet town on Wednesday around 6:58 pm. The blaze, which was substantial in scale, prompted an immediate response from firefighters who rushed to the scene.

Despite their efforts, the situation exacerbated as transformers exploded, amplifying the danger with loud noises that terrified locals. The explosion resulted in the outage of electricity supply to nearby villages, including Siddipet and Dubbak towns.

Authorities have indicated that power restoration may not be possible until tomorrow. The incident has incurred significant financial losses, estimated to be in crores of rupees. While initial reports attribute the accident to an electrical trip, Electricity Officer Srinivas mentioned that a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the exact cause

Efforts were made to contain the fire by utilizing water tankers from the municipality, sourced from Komaticheruvu. It is suspected that transformer explosions were triggered by inadequate electricity supply caused by overloading.
