Shankar Pamarthy, noted Cartoonist, who hails from Nagireddypalli village in Nalgonda district, has won the prestigious World Press Cartoon Grand Prix Award 2014.
The World Press Cartoon organization is based in Portugal. Cartoonists from 64 countries have sent their entries for this year’s contest.
Shankar’s caricature of Nelson Mandela, South African anti-apartheid leader, has won the Best Caricature Award. (See attached caricature)
The Award carries a cash reward of 10,000 Euros (About Rs. 8,00,000). The award would be given away in an International Exhibition to be held in November in Portugal.
Shankar is currently working in Sakshi Telugu daily as a cartoonist. He had won several prestigious international awards in the past.
