The air-conditioned buses introduced in Hyderabad city are receiving good patronage from the public and 100 more AC buses will be introduced in Telangana, transport minister P Mahender Reddy has said.
Speaking at Road Safety Week celebrations here on Friday, the minister said RTC drivers were doing a commendable job by carrying about 93 lakh passengers every day to their destinations safely in Telangana.
Reddy presented safe driving awards to drivers who rendered accident-free service for more than 30 years.
“Roads are being developed in all the districts with an outlay of Rs 1,500 crore to ensure safe and comfortable travel, and the government is taking all steps for the welfare of RTC employees. We have talked with Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari about division of APSRTC and it will be over soon,” he said.
GS Shivudu of Hanumakonda depot, Md Tajuddin of Midhani depot and P Rajaiah of Vemulavada depot, who have driven RTC buses for more than 34 years without a single accident, were given the first, second and third awards respectively. Kukatpally, Kushaiguda, Suryapet, Bandlaguda, Dubbaka, Gajwel depots were selected for road safety awards.
The newly-appointed vice-chairman and managing director of APSRTC, N Sambasiva Rao, lauded the drivers who have carried out their duty without any accident for more than three decades.
APSRTC joint managing director GV Ramana Rao, chief commercial manager Venkateshwar Reddy and director KVV Gopal were present at the ceremony which was attended by many employees and their family members.
