Power consumption will increase by 58.71% in Telangana during 2022-32

The demand for power supply in Telangana is likely to be around 1,20,549 million units by 2031-32. The Central Electricity Authority (CEA) in its recent electric power survey observed that the current consumption is 70,871 million units which is likely to increase.

In Telangana, the peak demand for power is 14,176 MW and consumption is 70,871 million units. The per capita consumption in Telangana state is 2021 units which is more than the national average. As of today, the Telangana state has a capacity of generating 18,567 MW and in view of increasing demand, the power production capacity is to be enhanced. Keeping this in view, the state government is constructing a 4,000 MW capacity thermal power station at Yadadri with a vision. It is also encouraging solar power production in the state.

As per the national electricity plan estimates, the consumption of power in Telangana state will increase by 58.71 per cent during the 2022-32 period. Meanwhile, the national maximum demand will reach 277.2 Giga Watts in 2026-27. The power consumption in Hyderabad city which is 21,799 million units in 2022-23 is likely to increase to 39,267 million units in 2029-2030. The demand for power in the Telangana state is estimated to be 92,967 million units (19,529 MW) in 2026-27 and 1,20,549 million units (27,059 MW) in 2031-32.

Under the visionary leadership of CM K Chandrasekhar Rao, the state had embarked on strengthening the power sector in a big way setting up numerous thermal and solar power plants across the state. The farmers are getting free round-the-clock power supply and various sections like laundries and saloons on subsidy. Telangana state is able to meet the expectations of corporate companies and industries as well without any hassle to date.
