The state government has enhanced the upper age limit for government jobs to 44 years from the present 34 years. Orders to this effect were issued on Monday.

Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has cleared the related file on Saturday and the government issued orders on Monday. The state government will soon start an exercise to fill up 15,000 jobs in 15 key departments.

“A number of representations have been received from unemployed youth, and also from public representatives for considering relaxation of upper age limit for direct recruitment to enable more unemployed youth to become eligible to compete in the recruitment process,” the orders said.

Accordingly, the State government has decided to raise the upper age limit by 10 years, from 34 years to 44 years, for the ensuing direct recruitments in various categories of posts to be notified by the recruiting agencies in the state. The upper age limit relaxation will be in force for only one year.

The maximum age limit for appointment by direct recruitment will be raised by 10 years for a period of one year. However, the upper age relaxation rule will not be applicable for the posts of uniformed services like police, excise, fire, prisons and forest departments, for which physical standards have been prescribed.

The ad hoc rule issued by the general administration department on Monday is as follows: “Notwithstanding anything contained in the State and Sub-ordinate Service Rules or in the Special or Ad hoc Rules for any State and Subordinate Services, the maximum age limit prescribed in the said rules for appointment by direct recruitment shall be raised by ‘ten years’ i.e., from 34 years to 44 years for a period of one year from the date of issue of GO, to various categories of posts to be notified for the purpose of direct recruitment. The age concession over and above the upper age limit shall also be allowed in accordance with the Rule 12 of the State and Subordinate Service Rules.
