Opposition leaders write an open letter to PM Modi decrying misuse of power

Vexed by the highhanded tactics of the ruling BJP at the Centre, leaders of various political parties wrote an open letter to Prime Minister Mr. Modi.

The signatories include Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, West Bengal chief minister Mamatha Banerjee, Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, New Delhi chief minister Aravind Kejriwal, SP leader Akhilesh Yadav, RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav and others.

Condemning the arrest of New Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, they said it was purely politically motivated. They said the ruling BJP was misusing the office of Governor across the country – Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Kerala, and elsewhere. It is undemocratic and against the spirit of federalism.

The Opposition leaders also pointed out that the ruling BJP was instigating the central government agencies – Income Tax, Enforcement Directorate, Central Bureau of Investigation to go after the leaders of Opposition parties. This amounted to nothing but taking the country from democracy to autocracy.

The deeds of the ruling BJP government are hitting the Opposition parties below their belt as it does not dare to play a fair game.

With utter disregard for the Constitution and constitutional bodies, the BJP is creating chaos and confusion in the political sphere. With its unsound policies, it brought untold misery to the countrymen, they opined.
