MPs discuss development proposals in SCR pre-budget meeting

A pre-budget meeting with Members of Parliament from Telangana conducted by South Central Railway General Manager P.K. Srivastava here on Wednesday threw up a host of proposals that the MPs wanted to be conveyed to the Railway Board ahead of the Railway Budget.

In all, 17 MPs, including Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, attended the meeting and came up with development proposals in their respective Parliamentary constituencies. Broadly, it involved enhanced budgetary allocations for ongoing doubling and new line projects, introduction of new trains and more stoppages for existing trains.

The meeting went on for over four hours and at the end of it, the MPs spoke to media persons, outlining their proposals. The MPs who spoke included Kadiam Srihari, Gutta Sukhender Reddy, G. Vinod, Boora Narasaiah Goud and Prabhakar Reddy.

They proposed a new train from Kazipet to Surat, changing of the name of Raigiri station to that of Yadagirigutta, extension of MMTS (Multi-Modal Transit System) up to Patancheru, speeding up works on the Wagon Factory in Kazipet and for new lines between Kazipet-Nandyal, Gadwal-Macherla, Bidar-Bodhan and Pandurangapuram-Sarapaka.

Mr. Dattatreya appreciated SCR’s initiative in convening the meeting. While expressing happiness that most MPs from Telangana State attended, he wanted demands for development activities to be properly prioritised. Improved passenger amenities and early completion of sanctioned projects would be given due importance, he added.

Wednesday’s meeting was preceded by a similar meeting at Vijayawada with Andhra MPs and will be followed by a meeting in Nanded on Thursday.
