Metro Rail to be Operational from This June

The first phase of Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) will be made commercially operational from the first week of June this year, minister for municipal administration and urban development K.Taraka Rama Rao has announced.

“The dates will be finalised after getting confirmation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao,” he said, adding that metro rail will run most probably from June 1 or 2, the Telangana State Formation Day.

Work on the first stage of metro rail from Nagole to Secunderabad railway station (9 km) on Corridor-III and stage-2 from Miyapur to SR Nagar (11.9 km) on Corridor-I is nearing completion. A 100-day action plan for GHMC, HMWS&SB, HMDA and MEPMA to improve the civic amenities was released by KTR here on Thursday.

Talking with reporters on Thursday, the minister said top priority would be given for addressing the grievances of people living in Hyderabad and other urban areas in the state.

MEPMA

  • To form 50 slum-level federations in all nagara panchayats.
  • Registration of 480 slum-level federations to avail revolving fund.
  • Establishing five city livelihood centres in state _ three in Warangal and two in Nizamabad.
  • WhatsApp Joint Action Groups to be created for five municipal corporations _ Warangal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Khammam and Ramagundem _ for effective service delivery.

HMDA

  • To introduce DPMS for layout permission, change of land use and NoCs in addition to building permissions. To dispose of LRS/BRS applications received in 2007-08.
  • Opening of the Ghatkesar-Keesara-Shamirpet stretch of ORR to traffic movement.
  • Commissioning of toll-free telephone number.
  • Laying of a 25-km-long cycling track along ORR (on the site earmarked for metro rail).
  • Raising 300 lakh seedlings and keeping 50 lakh ready for public distribution by May 31.
  • Greening and beautification of permanent dump sites at Sanjeevaiah Park.

HMWS&SB

  • All 32,000 pending water supply connections to be be cleared.
  • New water reservoirs to be commissioned at Shastripuram, Golden Heights, Budwel, Suleman Nagar, Barkas and KPHB Colony.
  • Laying of trunk sewer mains to prevent sewage from entering the Hussainsagar and Durgan Cheruvu to be completed.
  • Pipeline laying in Serilingampally to be completed to improve water supply in Hafeezpet, Miyapur and Chandanagar for about 20,000 connections.
  • Water distribution network to be completed in parts of Malkajgiri zone for improvement of supply.
  • The pipeline laid by RWS to be commissioned to augment water supply to Manikonda, Puppalguda, Narsingi, Jawahar Nagar, Chennapur, Dammaiguda, Rampally, Kundanpally, RL Nagar and Timmayapally.
