A group of ministers and other public representatives met the chief minister Mr Mr K Chandrasekhar Rao and presented him the invitation for historic Medaram Sammakka Sarakka jatara beginning from February 16.
Tribal welfare minister Mr Satyavathi Rathod, Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao, Endowments minister Mr A Indrakaran Reddy and others met the chief minister and apprised him of the arrangements made for the historic jatara. They thanked him for generously releasing funds for the purpose.
The jatara that comes once in two years witnessed the largest congregation of devotees from across the country. It celebrates the valour of two tribal women Sammakka and Sarakka who went down fighting the mighty Kakatiya army some eight centuries ago.
It is predominantly an Adivasi tribal fair but of late people from all communities gather here to celebrate and offer special prayers to deities.
As the crowds swelled over the years, the state government pitched in to make all arrangements such as toilets, lighting, barricading, security, special bathing ghats at Jampanna vagu among others. It is expected that nearly one crore people visit the tiny Medaram village on four days.
After the formation of Telangana state, the chief minister Mr KCR focussed more on improving the facilities some on a permanent basis and not the village has cottages and many structures.
