KCR promises 2 BHK houses to slum dwellers

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has assured the poor residents of Mahabubnagar living in thatched houses that the government will construct 2 BHK houses for them free of cost in the next four months with all basic amenities.

The poor living in rented houses would also get new houses in the colony to be constructed elsewhere in the town, the Chief Minister said, while interacting with the residents of Patha Palamuru and Patha Thota basthis in Mahabubnagar on Sunday. The government would purchase 30 to 40 acres land, if necessary, for construction of the housing colony.

Stating that the living condition in the basthis was very bad, he said drain water was overflowing onto the narrow roads. He asked the residents to have habitation meetings in the night to decide whether they would cooperate with the government in preparing proper layouts. He would come back in 8 to 10 days to lay foundation stone for construction of the houses, if they remained united and cooperated with the government, he said, cautioning that some political elements would try to spoil the plans. “Elections are not around for the next four years and everybody should keep in mind that this is not the time for politicking,” he noted.

To overcome the problem of drinking water, he assured to get water from Srisailam reservoir to Mahabubnagar in a year’s time. For the time being, bore-wells would be sunk in the slums and reverse-osmosis (RO) plants would be set up to provide safe drinking water, he said, directing the officials to not collect user charges from the poor and take up their maintenance.

The Chief Minister directed the officials to take up a socio-economic study in the slums so that the unemployed youth were given assistance for self-employment /livelihood activities.

Ministers Jupally Krishna Rao and C. Laxma Reddy, Mahabubnagar MP A.P. Jitender Reddy, MLA V. Srinivas Goud participated.
