Demanding installation of the statue of Dr B R Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution in the premises of the Assembly, Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has decided to undertake a 48-hour hunger strike from April 13.
Addressing the newsmen here on Wednesday, Kavitha appealed to the government to make a statement on this issue by April 14, which happens to be the birth anniversary of the dalit leader.
“Dr Ambedkar is an inspirational figure to every Indian. We urge the government to install his statue right beside the statue of Mahatma Gandhi located in the Assembly,” she said.
Kavitha regretted the fact that Speaker Nadendla Manohar did not give appointment to dalit organizations, who tried to meet him on this issue.
Telangana Mala Mahanadu and few dalit organisations expressed their support to Kavitha’s fast, which would be held at Indira Park.
People’s demand for installation of Ambedkar’s statue in the premises of the Assembly is growing with each passing day.
Politicians cutting across party lines, members of dalit organizations and intellectuals had already extended support to this demand. [The HANS India]
