The mega celebrations, Bangaru Bathukamma, organised by Telangana Jagruthi, commenced at Bhongir on Wednesday. Women from across the district took part in the festivities in the presence of Jagruthi founder-president and Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha.
After reaching Bhongir at 1:30 pm, Kavitha headed straight to the houses of TRS MLAs and installed Bathukammas there.
Hundreds of women, led by Kavitha, went in a procession from Hanumanavara to Bhongir Government Junior College, dancing, singing and playing Bathukamma all the way.
TRS cadre arranged a 10-foot-tall Bathukamma at the college where the women processionists also brought their own Bathukammas, and all of them celebrated the event with zeal.
Bhongir MP B Narsaiah, MLA P Sekhar Reddy, Alair MLA Sunitha, TRS leader A Krishna Reddy and district collector T Chiranjeevulu also took part in the festival celebrations.
