Telangana Jagruthi president and MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha launched the Bathukamma festival celebration with inmates of Sanjeevani orphanage in Narsampet here on Monday.
She expressed happiness over celebrating the festival with orphans in an attempt to spread happiness. She along with the inmates and other local women arranged flowers for Bathukamma.
Earlier, Kavitha was accorded a grand welcome from the women in Narsampet, while party leaders A. Chandulal, Peddi Sudarshan Reddy, Telangana Jagruthi State vice-president Dasyam Vijaya Bhaskar and other party leaders accompanied her.
Later, in the evening, the celebrations began with prayers at the Venkateshwara temple and later Kavitha joined the other women through glittering streets with colourful lights at the Narasampet angadi Maidanam where arrangements are made for the celebrations.
Telangana Jagruthi State-vice president D. Vijaya Bhaskar said that ten tonnes of marigold flowers were brought in from Bangalore and were distributed to all the households in Narsampet.
