It’s time to move on

By: Soonya

It’s time for our Seemandhra leaders from all parties acknowledge that an irreversible process has been set into motion.

As ever they have been acting without a vision, focusing on narrow views of history when an eventful process in history has started. It would not be very smart to hang to metaphors or ideas whose time is barred.

The idea of ‘samaikyaandhra’ and its proponents do not seem to understand the meaninglessness of their stand. All those who want the state to be united are not from Telangana. Except one Jagga Reddy no one seriously in Telangana spoke or speaking about a united Andhra Pradesh.

It is understandable and probably one could empathize with this vague ‘loss’ and the universe of feelings that accompany it for many people for a while.

But smart people understand inevitability in history, acknowledge and move on. Instead of creating ruckus and vitiate the climate they ought to focus on what needs to be done.

Unfortunately, no Seemandhra leader or Party seems to focus on here and how. They seem to love to bury their heads in sands of yesterday. Today is another day. They seem to act as if it is SSDD – Same Sh*t Different Day!

Trying one-upmanship among themselves and stoking fires, creating false hopes of reversing the historical tides would tantamount to foolishness at the least and dangerous at the worst.

So far the leadership of the movement for Telangana has been very sane, and has demonstrated its sagacity and statesmanship.

It’s time for a new act. It is time to negotiate and engage rather than push people into reactivity. The people of Seemandhra need sagacious leadership which needs to bring the agitating minds to the current task and help them acknowledge the inevitable.

The more false hopes they create and for longer they would be increasing the disappointment among people.

Meanwhile the Seemandhra owned and managed media needs also to play a constructive role and move away from the cheap tricks and tactics they employed during the struggle for Telangana.

The media should stop stoking the embers in the false hope that they can stem the tide of history. This is the time to show that they occupy a critical position in the society and should be more objective, and act with a vision rather than compete with each other in rabble rousing. Especially the electronic media has to show restraint and not act like yellow journalists and seek sensationalism, which will definitely boomerang and could be inimical to the interests of the masters and the people they wish to serve and represent and have been representing.

I do sincerely hope with the venting of their frustration done in the last few days, many of the Seemandra leaders ought get to the negotiating table. Otherwise their constituencies will not pardon them later in history.

I think they got a sweet deal with Polavaram being given a national status which in my view is a significant loss to Telangana, which I understand from the irrigation experts will submerge large tracts of lands in Khammam and will dispossess many tribals living in hamlets in the forests abutting the river.

Hope the SA leaders understand the import the of offer they got. The centre seems to be assuring that all help would be offered to build a new and world-class and modern city. Which should become an engine of growth offering new and innumerable opportunities. Some how the sand-locked SA leaders seem to miss the import and seem to abandon their role to share it with their own people.

The only thing that seems to bother them is about their electoral prospects and their fears about ill-gotten land deals in and around Hyderabad.

It’s time that TGVs, Sake’s and Jagadapatis of the world stop being self-centered and focus on what needs to be done.

Meanwhile CBN as ever, smartly maintained a calculated silence during the process and trying to occupy the ‘visionary’ role and has started speaking for Andhra and is trying to speak for Telangana as well. Sirji, Telangana will look after itself. The SA brethren need a leader and you can step in.

The SA politicians especially from Congress lot seem to be a confused lot. Hope Mr. Digvijaya Sing dins some sense into them and helps them with some direction. They are acting like head-less chicken. Apart from shooting themselves in the foot, they could muddy the otherwise peaceful atmosphere.

I am sure they are trying to provoke the T-vaadis into reacting. I guess we on our part have to continue to hold our equanimity and sagesse as events are unfolding.

Finally, a request to our SA leadership please do prepare your constituencies to engage with the here and now and the irreversible historical process of the de-merger of the state.

A request to the civil society in SA region – it is time that you spoke and took a leadership position for the people of SA region and play a constructive role during these confusing times so that people are not led astray.

And also a request to our BJP friends, be very careful In using Modi in SA region you may lose the hard gained sympathy in Telangana. So far apart from CPI only BJP stood by the de-merger and dared to face people in SA region. My earnest appeal is – do not try to fish in troubled and murkied waters.

For those in SA region who still think it is KCR or Sonia or some person who is wanting demerger, I suggest that you listen to the now famous toddy tapper Mr. Somayya Goud’s song on YouTube. You will know that it is impossible for us to stay together however much one may pine for it. Much water has flown under the bridge as they say.

Both the states will prosper and will find new energy. Let us compete with each other to make both the states as model modern states with strong economies and distributed prosperity among their peoples and serve as examples for rest of India.
