This incident proves the cruel suppression that Telangana people continue to face in a unified state.
Yesterday, a group of Telangana activists, who wanted to hold a padayatra from Chandanagar to Yadagiri Gutta were stopped by the police. These activists merely wanted to hold thanksgiving prayers at Yadagirigutta Laxmi Narasimha Swamy temple.
Telangana JAC Chairman Prof Kodandaram, Telangana Gazetted Officers Association President V Srinivas Goud and Chevella TRS Incharge Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, who came to flag off the padayatra, were arrested and shifted to Pet Basheerabad Police station.
The arrest of Telangana leaders created severe tension in the area. Hundreds of Telangana activists immediately rushed to Pet Basheerabad Police Station and staged a dharna.
Speaking to media at the police station Prof Kodandaram condemned the police highhandedness on a peaceful program. He questioned how corrupt leaders like YS Jagan were allowed to hold victory marches from the jail to their home.
Even local journalists, who went to cover the incident, were also threatened by the police.
