The Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry has granted Geographical Indication (GI) to the renowned lac bangles of Hyderabad. The GI was granted on Friday, making it the 17th item from Telangana to receive such recognition.
Ladbazaar in Charminar is popular for its lacquerware, and the Crescent Handicrafts Welfare Association, with support from the Telangana government, applied for geographical identification of lac bangles in June 2022.
The GI certificate will soon be issued and a unique logo is being designed for lac bangles.
