The State government is planning a massive housing programme for the poor by constructing houses in 67 municipal towns. It has already announced construction of two lakh houses for the poor in Hyderabad. Likewise, houses will be constructed in each of the 67 municipalities in the state.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, at a meeting with district collectors and municipal officials here Monday, said around 500-1,000 houses should be constructed in each municipality in the first phase of the programme.
Rao said there were 67 municipalities in the state and houses should be constructed on G+1 and G+2 basis. The State will utilise funds from the Central government’s housing scheme.
He also told the officials the government was ready to spend Rs 5 lakh on each house without imposing burden of not even Rs 1 on the poor. “Each double bedroom should be 550 sq ft. No poor family should face housing problem. The houses constructed now should be used for the next generation too,” Rao said. The housing colonies should be constructed on the lines of the one constructed at IDH Colony in Hyderabad, he added.
The officials were instructed to invite open tenders for construction of houses. In rural areas, the government will construct independent houses, G+1 in Nagar Panchayats and G+2 buildings in municipalities.
The officials were instructed to earmark 125 sq yards in rural areas and around 75 to 100 sq yards in towns for construction of each house. Rao said genuine beneficiaries in Indiramma Housing scheme should be paid bills and wanted the officials to prepare the list for the same.
