Health Scheme for Telangana Employees

Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao will formally launch the new health scheme for government employees on Wednesday. As per the scheme the government will provide free medical treatment for all ailments without any contribution from the employees.

There is no upper limit in providing medicare to the state government employees. Earlier, the ceiling was fixed at Rs 2 lakh. ‘’There is no maximum limit on expenses. The government is ready to spend any amount on the health of employees and members of their families,” the chief minister said at a review meeting at the Secretariat here on Tuesday.

The newly introduced health insurance scheme will also be extended to government pensioners.

The health cards issue was on cards even during the undivided AP government. Even after a series of meetings, the government could not finalise the modalities. The government then proposed a maximum limit of Rs 2 Lakh for reimbursement and also wanted the employees to contribute at least 50 per cent of the insurance amount annually. The issue was put on hold during the state bifurcation process.

Now, Telangana government has decided to issue health cards. ‘’Employees need not pay anything from their pockets for the health scheme. The state government will bear the total medical expenses of the employees,” the chief minister said. Earlier, only 395 different ailments were covered under the health insurance scheme. Now, all the diseases will be covered under health insurance scheme.

The insurance scheme would be extended to aided staff, university lecturers and other employees.
