Harathi to Mark Pushkaram Finale

The 12-day festival of Godavari Pushkarams will conclude with a grand Harathi at 5 pm in Dharmapuri and at 6 pm in Kaleshwaram on Saturday, said collector Neetu Prasad.

Minister for Civil Supplies Eatela Rajender and chief whip Koppula Easwar will attend the programme.

A day ahead of the conclusion of Pushkarams, the main ghats in the district witnessed heavy rush with lakhs thronging Dharmapuri, Kaleshwaram, Kotilingala and Manthani.

Assembly speaker S Madhusudhana Chary took the holy dip, along with family members, at Dharmapuri on Friday. Endowment minister A Indrakaran Reddy and minister for Civil Supplies and Finance Eatela Rajender inspected the Pushkar ghats at Eardandi and Valgonda of Ibrahimpatnam, Mallapur respectively.

Later, Rajender visited Kammunur Pushkar ghat and performed Godavari Harathi, he thanked all sections of people including the district officials and voluntary organisations for making the Pushkarams a grand success without causing any inconvenience to the pilgrims.

Anticipating heavy rush of pilgrims on Saturday, the police authorities have decided to divert traffic on the roads approaching Pushkaram ghats. SP D Joel Davis have issued directions to the police officials to streamline traffic. At Kaleshwaram, the water level in Godavari has been rising due to rains. Officials have alerted NDRF teams and pilgrims were not allowed enter the deep portions of the river.
