CM likely to undertake aerial survey in Damarcherla, Nereducherla, Mellacheruvu and Mattapally mandals
Hit by power crisis, the Telangana State is reportedly focusing on establishing a thermal power plant in the public sector in Miryalaguda division area in Nalgonda district.
Land availability
Sources in the district administration told The Hindu, that about12,000 acres of forest land was available in Damarcherla, Nereducherla, Mellacheruvu and Mattapally mandals. Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao will soon conduct an aerial survey in these mandals to review the resources available for establishing the thermal power plant.
Water supply
Besides the availability of a large chunk of land, the sources further said that the operation of thermal power plant needs supply of water. The 12,000 acre land is located on the banks of Krishna river between Nagarjunasagar and Pulichinthla project.
“The area is also having rail connectivity to transport coal from various parts of the State, the sources added.
Moreover, two industry giants in India Penna Cements and India Cements have been operating 60 MW and 30 MW thermal power generation plants successfully since two years.
On the other side of Krishna bank in Guntur district, there are some thermal industries, the sources said.
Feasible factors
The sources said these are the factors that might attract the Chief Minister to concentrate on establishing thermal power generation here to meet the shortage of electricity supply.
However, the locals have been obstructing the district administration from conducting environmental public hearing of another proposed thermal plant of 200 MW in private sector the area, twice in the past one year.
Similar stance is expected from the locals here when the State government goes ahead on these proposals.
