Preparations are in full swing for Independence Day celebrations at the historic 16th century Golconda Fort. Chief secretary of Telangana Rajiv Sharma and DGP Anurag Sharma visited the monument on Tuesday to review the arrangements being made for the celebrations. Officials told them that all arrangements for a heritage and environment-friendly celebrations are in place.
The two officials went around the fort overseeing the arrangements. M Mahender Reddy, city police commissioner, said that no harm would be caused to the historic monument or the environs of the fort. He said that car passes were being issued for the guests and invitees. He appealed to the people to follow the routes mentioned in the passes to avoid traffic snarls.
The decision to unfurl the national flag in the first ever Independence day celebrations in Telangana was taken by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to revive the cultural heritage of Telangana. He would hoist the flag at a spot next to the Taramati mosque.
Sprucing up activities are being undertaken in full flow so as to meet the deadline. The chief minister has decided the same venue for all state and national festivals including Republic day.
