Batukamma Ghats Planned at All Minor Tanks in N’bad

The State government will build ghats (steps) at minor irrigation tanks in every village to enable women to immerse Batukammas in the water bodies. These steps, ‘Batukamma Metlu,’ will be built at every village tank in Nizamabad district.

At a review meeting on irrigation projects in Nizamabad district, irrigation minister T Harish Rao directed the district collector to implement the plan. He also directed the officials to construct mini-Tank Bunds for all important tanks in the district in time for the festivities. Harish Rao wanted the officials to discuss with Maharashtra irrigation officials the problems pertaining to the Lendi irrigation project. District minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy was also present in the meeting.

Harish Rao said that the state government started efforts to bring back the past glory to Nizam Sagar project. He also reviewed progress of works of SRSP, Pocharam project, Lendi, Gutpha, Ali Sagar and other projects in Nizamabad district.

Harish Rao directed the officials to remove encroachments on irrigation canals. Revenue and irrigation officials will conduct a joint survey on encroachments and submit a report to the government in the next 15 days.

Khammam Projects: Reviewing the projects in Khammam district, Harish Rao expressed satisfaction over the progress of Nagarjuna Sagar modernisation works. He reviewed the progress of works in every package. Under Mission Kakatiya in Khammam district, the farmers raised crops in two lakh acres. The tanks were filled with water due to heavy rains in Khammam. The tanks were desilted recently under Mission Kakatiya. He also discussed reengineering of Rajiv Dummugudem and Indira Sagar lift irrigation projects. Khammam district minister Tummala Nageswara Rao was present in the review.

Mahbubnagar: Reviewing projects in Mahbubnagar, Harish Rao wanted the officials to prepare plans to provide irrigation water to one lakh acres of ayacut by next June under Kalwakurthy package 29. He also enquired about the progress of Koilsagar and Nettempadu works. He said 96 pc of land acquisition for major irrigation projects was completed in the district.
