Thanks to the copious rains upstream of Krishna river, the Almatti reservoir in Karnataka is filled to its brim and, consequently, Telangana state is getting huge quantity of water.
On Wednesday too more than one lakh cusecs of water was released through the Almatti dam. With the release of the water from Almatti from Tuesday, the first irrigation project in Telangana state at Narayanapur was almost filled. As against the 1,615 feet of full reservoir level (FRL), the level at Narayanapur on Wednesday was 1,611 feet.
The level at Almatti dam at 10.40 am on Wednesday was 518.65 metres against the
FRL of 519.60 metres. The storage was 87.784 tmcft against the gross storage of 123.08 tmcft. Almatti continue to receive good amounts of inflows of around 82,000 cusecs. The outflows are recorded at more than one lakh cusecs.
Though Narayanapur received heavy inflows, the Jurala reservoir is yet to receive water. The water released from Narayanapur may reach Jurala barrage on Thursday and it will take another two or three days for the water to reach Srisailam.
Telangana state require water for irrigation needs. As the water levels in major reservoirs are slowly increasing.
The Krishna River Management Board will meet soon to decide the quantum of water
to be released to both the states for agricultural operations.
