Allegations on police recruitment physical events fall flat

The recently released physical events results have put an end to the baseless allegations about the police recruitment process in Telangana. For a few weeks, there has been propaganda running on social media against the physical events for the recruitment of Sub-Inspectors and Constables.

However, the qualifying percentage busted the false claim that physical tests were made tough this time to reduce the number of qualifying candidates. In the police recruitment that happened in 2018-19, the qualifying percentage was 48.5%. And the percentage improved to 53.7% this time.

Another lie that was being peddled was that the rules for clearing long jump and shot put events were made tougher this time. Contrary to the claim, 83% of candidates have cleared the long jump event and 91% of male candidates and 96% of female candidates have qualified in the shot put event.

Out of 2,07,106 candidates who appeared for the physical events, 1,11,209 candidates cleared the tests. If the tests were so tough to clear as claimed, the qualifying percentage wouldn’t have been this higher.

Also, without giving any chance for discrepancies, the process was completely digitised this time. The physical events were recorded using CCTV cameras and the latest technology was used to measure the height of the candidates.

The allegations were a clear attempt to malign the recruitment process and to mislead the police job aspirants.
