The 11.5 km PVNR Expressway is the longest in the city that is being dedicated to people and the 2.71 km Sheikhpet flyover will be the second-longest. The PVNR Expressway is a four-lane, the Sheikhupeta is set to be the longest on the six-lane elevated corridor. The Sheikhupeta Flyover, which will ease traffic congestion at the four major junctions, will also serve as a bridge connecting the Outer Ring Road to the Inner Ring Road.
Construction of state-of-the-art Sheikhpet and Mithani six-lane corridor flyovers were opened within span of one week. The availability of these flyovers will reduce traffic congestion on those routes as well as reduce fuel costs and travel time. Pollution at the respective junctions will also be reduced. The construction of these bridges was completed in three and a half years at a cost of Rs 333.55 crore with state-of-the-art technology. City Mayor Gadwala Vijayalakshi, who inspected the flyovers on Thursday, told media persons that 22 works worth Rs 2,000 crore, including these two flyovers, have been completed so far under the SRDP.
