“It’s like a dream for us. I never thought that the Chief Minister will come down to the hospital to see my son,” gushed Konda Balaiah with happiness writ large on his face. But Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao made it true for 11-year-old Konda Sarath, who is suffering from a rare heart disease, by visiting him at Apollo Hospital here on Thursday despite his busy schedule.
“Today is the best day for Sarath who became a fan of KCR during the Telangana movement,” Balaiah said, adding that they were moved by the gesture of the Chief Minister. “Sarath gets excited whenever he sees KCR on TV,” the proud father said. Apart from paying him a visit, KCR said the government would bear the expenses for Sarath’s treatment. He also promised to give Rs 5 lakh on behalf of TRS to his family.
In fact, meeting KCR and talking to him has been a dream of Sarath. Balaiah tried all possible ways to fulfil the wish of his son. But it was impossible for this poor tailor from a small village in Warangal district. Balaiah doesn’t have own house. But now his fate is going to change as the CM has promised to sanction land for a house and provide construction expenses. He also promised to provide free education for Sarath after the latter expressed his wish to become a doctor.
Make-A-Wish Foundation made it happen by approaching the CM and arranged a meet with the boy. Now, Sarath is out of danger and ready for discharge. Doctors corrected the heart defects after a major operation. “He is normal now,” said Dr Girish Warrier.
Sarath was born with a major defect in the heart where the unpurified blood was being circulated to the body. He had only one ventricle in the heart and also had a defect in the heart valves.
