The depleting water level in the Sripada Yellampalli is raising concerns about an impending water crisis in the coming summer season. Due to local of sufficient water in the Yellampalli project, the Irrigation authorities have submitted proposals to the government urging the release of water from the Kadem project for the upcoming season.
The total water storage capacity of the Yellampalli project stands at 20 TMC, with the current available volume being 11 TMC. However, after excluding the dead storage of 3.30 TMC, the usable water is less than seven TMC. This poses a significant challenge as Mission Bhagiratha water needs to be supplied to areas such as Hyderabad, NTPC, Ramagundam Fertilizers, and various districts dependent on this project.
The water level in the Yellampalli project is depleting rapidly, at a rate of approximately one TMC per week. This has led to complications in meeting the water demand for Mission Bhagiratha. Consequently, officials are advocating for the release of water from the Kadem project to Yellampalli to ensure the necessary water level for Mission Bhagiratha’s supply.
The Kadem project, with a full water capacity of 7 TMC, currently has 3.57 TMC available, considering its dead storage of 2.5 TMCs. This year, a crop holiday has been declared under the Kadem project. In light of these circumstances, Yellampalli project officials are seeking approval to release water from the Kadem project.
