BJP gives a big zero to Telangana in flood relief fund

The BJP government at the Centre that granted Rs. 1,816.16 crore to five states towards flood relief, has turned a blind eye towards Telangana.

The Telangana suffered from the Godavari floods last July. Bhadrachalam town was totally inundated and extensive damage was witnessed in Adilabad, Nirmal, Asifabad, Mancherial, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, and Peddapalli districts. The total damage on account of floods was estimated at Rs. 1,400 crore. The State government has asked the centre to release Rs. 1,000 crore as immediate relief but not a single rupee was released.

In the 2022-2023 financial year, the Central government has released Rs 15,770 crore from SDRF funds and Rs. 502.744 crore from NDRF. Telangana did not get a single rupee in addition to the routine grant.

On Monday, the Centre announced a flood relief fund of Rs. 841.04 crores to Karnataka, Rs. 520.46 crores to Assam, Rs. 239.31 crores to Himachal Pradesh, Rs. 47.32 crores to Meghalaya and Rs. 68.02 crores to Nagaland states. The Telangana state was deliberately missed from the list.
