No money for chalks or dusters: Govt. schools waiting for grants

Principals of government schools in Telangana are facing significant challenges due to the non-release of government grants. Three months into the 2024-25 academic year, the Congress government has yet to release funds. Principals have voiced their concerns, stating that they are unable to buy basic supplies like chalk pieces and dusters.

The government typically allocates funds twice a year to support the maintenance and functioning of schools, ensuring they can operate without major issues. However, with the academic year already well underway, these grants have yet to be released. As a result, many principals and teachers have been forced to dip into their own pockets to cover essential expenses and keep their schools running smoothly.

School grants are critical for purchasing items such as attendance registers, chalk, A4 paper, brooms, toilet cleaning supplies, plastic buckets, soaps, laboratory chemicals, and replacing broken equipment. Without these funds, maintaining the day-to-day operations of the schools has become increasingly difficult.

Additionally, many schools lack adequate sports supplies, and the absence of funds has forced students to step back from participating in sports. Concerned parents are urging the government to release the grants soon, stressing the importance of encouraging young athletes.
