MLC Kavitha writes to council chairman opposing Rajiv Gandhi’s statue in Secretariat

MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha wrote a letter to the Chairman of the Telangana Legislative Council opposing the installation of the statue of former PM Rajiv Gandhi in front of the Telangana Secretariat. Going against the initial plan by the BRS government to install the Telangana Thalli statue, yesterday CM Revanth Reddy laid a foundation stone to install the Rajiv Gandhi statue.

“While I respect Sri Rajiv Gandhi’s contributions to our nation, I believe that putting his statue ahead of Telangana Thalli is not the right decision. It goes against the wishes of the people of Telangana and disrespects our cultural identity,” said Kavitha in her letter.

The MLC added that the Telangana Thalli Statue is incredibly important as it represents Telangana’s unique cultural identity and reminds us of the struggles and aspirations of our ancestors. “Replacing it with a statue of a national figure, no matter how important, would erase what makes Telangana special,” she said.

Kavitha urged the state government to reconsider this decision and prioritize the erection of the Telangana Thalli Statue. “By doing so, they would honor our state’s cultural legacy and show respect for the sentiments and identity of the people they serve,” she added.
