Junior doctors across Telangana have commenced an indefinite strike, halting all services except for emergency care. As a result, outpatient (OP) services, elective surgeries, and ward duties have ceased.
The doctors maintain that they will not relent until their demands are met. Approximately 4,000 junior doctors are participating in the strike. They had issued a strike notice to the government on the 19th of this month, detailing eight demands, including the timely payment of stipends. Despite their protests over the past four days, the doctors lament that neither the Health Minister nor the government has acknowledged their concerns.
This indefinite strike follows a previous strike notice given to the government on the 20th of last month. That strike was called off on the 21st after negotiations and assurances from senior officials. However, with no promises fulfilled over the past month, the doctors issued another strike notice on the 19th of this month and began various forms of protest the following day..
